SIMPARICA rapidly kills fleas within four to eight hours of treatment and is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations. SIMPARICA breaks the flea life cycle by killing adult fleas before they can lay eggs, therefore eliminating the risk of further environmental infestation. The product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for the control of Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD). SIMPARICA treats and controls paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocyclus), brown dog ticks and bush ticks. The product has persistent flea and tick killing activity for 5 weeks (35 days). SIMPARICA is effective for the treatment and control of ear mites, demodex mites and sarcoptic mange. In tick season, daily searching for, and removal of, any ticks found is recommended.
For use in puppies from 8 weeks of age and weighing 1.3 kg or more.
For optimal treatment and control of fleas and tick infestations, the product should be administered at regular monthly intervals. Treatment with SIMPARICA may begin at any time of the year and should continue without interruption all year round. To minimise the likelihood of flea re-infestation, it is important to treat all dogs and cats within the household. SIMPARICA is approved for use in dogs only. For the treatment of ear mites SIMPARICA should be administered for two consecutive months. Cleansing of the affected ears is recommended to remove the debris associated with ear mites. For the treatment of sarcoptic mange SIMPARICA should be administered for two consecutive months. For the treatment of demodicosis infestations, SIMPARICA should be administered monthly until the absence of mites is confirmed by two consecutive monthly skin scrapings.
SIMPARICA has been shown to be safe in various breeds of dog across a broad weight range, when administered according to the dosage schedule. Safety in puppies from 8 weeks of age and weighing over 1.3 kg has also been demonstrated. During clinical field testing in various breeds of dogs, no adverse reactions were observed when SIMPARICA was used with other commonly used treatments. SIMPARICA may be administered in conjunction with vaccines, gastrointestinal worming treatments, heartworm preventatives, antibiotics, and corticosteroids when used according to label directions. Clinical studies have demonstrated that SIMPARICA is well tolerated in dogs when coadministered with macrocyclic lactones, and is also well tolerated in ivermectin-sensitive Collies.
SIMPARICA is offered to dogs orally, and as such there are no restrictions on swimming, bathing and shampooing before or after administration. Dogs can be treated while wet and can be exposed to water immediately after treatment.
SIMPARICA is available in six dosage strengths: 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, 80 mg and 120 mg, for dogs of different sizes. Each chew is mottled brown in colour, and square shaped with rounded edges. The number embossed on one side refers to the different strengths (mg) of the tablets. The chew should not be divided.
