Once a month oral flea treatment for dogs and cats
Comfortis Chewable Tablets For Dogs
Comfortis is a once a month oral medication which rapidly kills fleas on dogs and cats. Studies have shown that Comfortis begins to kill fleas within 30 minutes of dosing and is 100% effective within 4 hours.
Comfortis can be used on wet dogs and bathing, swimming and getting wet does not diminish the product's effectiveness.
Comfortis can be used in dogs and cats over 14 weeks of age.
Owners should seek veterinary advice regarding use in pregnant or lactating animals and for use with pre-existing epilepsy. Safety has not been established in breeding males.
Comfortis can be safely used with topical tick treatments and collars, gastrointestinal worm treatments and heartworm treatments used in accordance to the manufacturer's dosing recommendations.
How to use the product
Comfortis is given orally once per month and the dose is bodyweight dependant. For cats 1.9 - 2.7kg use the pink box (140mg), for cats 2.8 - 5.4kg use the orange box (270mg), for cats 5.5kg - 11.2kg use the green box (560mg).
Comfortis is presented as a chewable tablet so many animals will eat the tablet off the owner's hand. In those animals which refuse to do this normal oral dosing procedure is recommended with the tablet being placed at the back of the oral cavity, the mouth closed and the throat stroked to encourage swallowing.
Comfortis should be given at the time of feeding (with food) for maximal effectiveness.
It is recommended that all animals in the household be treated with an effective flea treatment for maximal flea control to be achieved.
Active ingredients
Comfortis contains the active ingredient Spinosad. Spinosad works by causing nerve excitation within the insect's nervous system, leading to muscle contractions, paralysis and death of the target pests.
Contraindications and warnings
There are no known contraindications for Comfortis.
However, veterinary advice should be sought before using in breeding or lactating animals or in animals with pre-existing epilepsy.
Side effects can include, but may not be limited to vomiting, depression/lethargy, anorexia, ataxia, diarrhoea, pruritis (itchy skin), trembling, hypersalivation and seizures. If vomiting occurs within 1 hour of administration, give another full dose.
If a monthly dose is missed, Comfortis should be restarted immediately and the monthly dosing schedule continued from that date.

Precautions | Seek veterinary advice regarding use of Comfortis in pregnant and lactating female dogs and in animals with pre-existing epilepsy. The safe use of Comfortis in breeding male dogs, or breeding, pregnant, lactating female cats, or breeding male cats has not been evaluated. Concurrent use of Comfortis with high off label doses of ivermectin for parasitic mange or demodicosis has been associated with an increased risk of developing neurological signs typically associated with ivermectin toxicity. Postapproval experience continues to support the safety of Comfortis when used in conjunction with macrocyclic lactone containing gastrointestinal worm treatments or heartworm preventatives in dogs, when used according to label directions. In dogs, Comfortis may be used in conjunction with topical tick treatments and collars used as per label directions. In cats, the safety of Comfortis in conjunction with macrocyclic lactone containing gastrointestinal worm treatments or heartworm preventatives and with topical tick treatments and collars has not been evaluated.First Aid If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre.
