What is Planipart?

Planipart is a veterinary medication used for the induction of parturition (labor) in cattle and pigs. It contains the active ingredient cloprostenol, which is a synthetic prostaglandin analogue. Animals may need Planipart in situations where it is necessary to induce labor for medical reasons, such as when there are complications during pregnancy or if the health of the mother or offspring is at risk. It is important to use Planipart under the guidance of a veterinarian to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals.

What problems could my pet have with Planipart?

While Planipart is generally considered safe and effective when used under the guidance of a veterinarian, there are some potential risks and side effects that pet owners should be aware of. Some common problems that may arise with the use of Planipart include: 1. Uterine contractions: Planipart works by inducing labor through stimulating uterine contractions. In some cases, this can lead to intense contractions that may cause discomfort or distress to the animal. 2. Vaginal discharge: After administration of Planipart, animals may experience increased vaginal discharge as a result of the medication's effects on the reproductive system. 3. Retained placenta: There is a risk of retained placenta following the use of Planipart, which can lead to complications such as infection or uterine inflammation. 4. Maternal health concerns: In rare cases, the use of Planipart may result in adverse effects on the mother's health, such as uterine rupture or hemorrhage. 5. Fetal distress: Inducing labor with Planipart may pose risks to the health and well-being of the offspring, including fetal distress or complications during delivery. It is important to discuss any concerns or potential risks with your veterinarian before using Planipart, and to closely monitor your pet for any signs of adverse reactions following administration.

Is there anything I need to know about administering Planipart?

Administering Planipart should always be done under the guidance and supervision of a veterinarian. It is crucial to follow the dosage instructions provided by the veterinarian carefully to ensure the safety and well-being of the animal. Additionally, here are some important points to keep in mind when administering Planipart: 1. Proper handling: Planipart should be handled with care to avoid accidental exposure. It is important to wear gloves when handling the medication to prevent skin contact. 2. Injection technique: Planipart is typically administered via intramuscular injection. Make sure to follow proper injection techniques to minimize the risk of complications or adverse reactions. 3. Storage: Store Planipart as per the manufacturer's instructions, typically in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and pets. 4. Monitoring: After administering Planipart, closely monitor the animal for any signs of adverse reactions or complications. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice any unusual symptoms or behaviors. 5. Disposal: Dispose of any unused or expired medication properly according to local regulations. Do not flush medications down the toilet or throw them in the trash where they can be accessed by children or pets. By following these guidelines and working closely with your veterinarian, you can help ensure the safe and effective use of Planipart for your pet.

Important information to know when ordering prescription medicines

A prescription is required from your veterinarian before we can supply this product.

If this is a new prescription, to enable immediate dispensing, please ask the vet to send a copy of the prescription to us prior to mailing it.

If the original prescription is in your possession, then please upload this to your pet's profile in VetRx prior to mailing it.

Please note that we must receive either a copy of the prescription from the vet, or the original prescription before we can dispatch your order. This does unfortunately add to the order processing time, however this is a requirement placed upon all pharmacies by the Health Regulators.

Only once a conformant electronic prescription system is approved by NSW Health, will we be able to end the need for paper prescriptions.

How Much Does Shipping Cost?

Small orders (less than 500g) cost $9.90 to be delivered anywhere in Australia. For larger orders, shipping costs are calculated on distance and weight (leaving Sydney) and an exact price can be obtained in the shopping cart prior to checkout.

Pet Pharmacy Australia applies a shipping discount on orders over $150. A discount of $9.90 is automatically applied during checkout. Additional shipping costs for bulky goods or priority delivery are paid by the customer.

The weight limit for Australia Post is 22kg and orders that weigh more than this cannot be shipped. We recommend placing multiple smaller orders to work around this problem.
