What is Neocort?

Neocort is a medication that contains prednisolone, which is a corticosteroid commonly used in veterinary medicine. It is prescribed by veterinarians to treat a variety of conditions in animals, such as inflammation, allergies, autoimmune diseases, and certain types of cancer. Neocort works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system's response, helping to alleviate symptoms and improve the overall health and well-being of the animal. It is important to follow your veterinarian's instructions carefully when administering Neocort to your pet.

What problems could my pet have with Neocort?

While Neocort can be highly effective in treating various conditions in animals, there are potential side effects and risks associated with its use. Some common problems that pets may experience when taking Neocort include: 1. **Increased Thirst and Urination**: Prednisolone, the active ingredient in Neocort, can cause increased thirst and urination in pets. 2. **Weight Gain**: Corticosteroids like prednisolone can lead to weight gain in some animals. 3. **Suppressed Immune System**: Neocort works by suppressing the immune system, which can make pets more susceptible to infections. 4. **Gastrointestinal Issues**: Some pets may experience gastrointestinal problems such as vomiting or diarrhea when taking Neocort. 5. **Behavioral Changes**: In some cases, corticosteroids can cause changes in behavior in pets, such as increased restlessness or aggression. 6. **Muscle Weakness**: Prolonged use of corticosteroids like Neocort can lead to muscle weakness in pets. 7. **Long-Term Health Risks**: There are potential long-term health risks associated with the prolonged use of corticosteroids, including the development of conditions like diabetes or Cushing's disease. It is important to closely monitor your pet for any signs of these side effects while they are taking Neocort and to consult your veterinarian if you have any concerns. Your veterinarian can provide guidance on how to minimize the risks and manage any potential side effects associated with Neocort treatment.

Is there anything I need to know about administering Neocort?

When administering Neocort to your pet, it is crucial to follow your veterinarian's instructions carefully. Here are some important points to keep in mind: 1. **Dosage**: Administer the prescribed dosage of Neocort as directed by your veterinarian. Do not adjust the dosage without consulting your vet. 2. **Administration**: Neocort may be given with or without food, depending on your veterinarian's instructions. Follow the recommended administration method to ensure the medication is effective. 3. **Consistency**: Try to administer Neocort at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level of the medication in your pet's system. 4. **Monitoring**: Keep a close eye on your pet for any signs of side effects or changes in behavior while they are taking Neocort. Contact your veterinarian if you notice anything concerning. 5. **Duration**: Follow the full course of treatment prescribed by your veterinarian. Do not stop giving Neocort to your pet abruptly, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms. 6. **Storage**: Store Neocort in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and pets. 7. **Consultation**: If you have any questions or concerns about administering Neocort to your pet, do not hesitate to reach out to your veterinarian for clarification and guidance. By following these guidelines and working closely with your veterinarian, you can help ensure the safe and effective administration of Neocort to your pet.

Important information to know when ordering prescription medicines

A prescription is required from your veterinarian before we can supply this product.

If this is a new prescription, to enable immediate dispensing, please ask the vet to send a copy of the prescription to us prior to mailing it.

If the original prescription is in your possession, then please upload this to your pet's profile in VetRx prior to mailing it.

Please note that we must receive either a copy of the prescription from the vet, or the original prescription before we can dispatch your order. This does unfortunately add to the order processing time, however this is a requirement placed upon all pharmacies by the Health Regulators.

Only once a conformant electronic prescription system is approved by NSW Health, will we be able to end the need for paper prescriptions.

How Much Does Shipping Cost?

Small orders (less than 500g) cost $9.90 to be delivered anywhere in Australia. For larger orders, shipping costs are calculated on distance and weight (leaving Sydney) and an exact price can be obtained in the shopping cart prior to checkout.

Pet Pharmacy Australia applies a shipping discount on orders over $150. A discount of $9.90 is automatically applied during checkout. Additional shipping costs for bulky goods or priority delivery are paid by the customer.

The weight limit for Australia Post is 22kg and orders that weigh more than this cannot be shipped. We recommend placing multiple smaller orders to work around this problem.
