What is Flagyl?

Flagyl is a common brand name for the medication metronidazole, which is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication used to treat a variety of infections in animals. It is commonly prescribed by veterinarians to treat bacterial and parasitic infections in pets, including gastrointestinal infections, periodontal disease, and certain types of skin infections. Metronidazole is effective against a wide range of bacteria and parasites, making it a versatile and commonly used medication in veterinary medicine. It is important to always follow your veterinarian's instructions when administering Flagyl to your pet to ensure the best possible outcome.

What problems could my pet have with Flagyl?

While Flagyl (metronidazole) is generally considered safe and effective when used as directed by a veterinarian, there are some potential side effects and risks to be aware of. Some pets may experience gastrointestinal upset, such as vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite, when taking Flagyl. In rare cases, more serious side effects such as neurological symptoms (such as seizures or disorientation) or allergic reactions may occur. It is important to monitor your pet closely while they are taking Flagyl and contact your veterinarian if you notice any concerning symptoms. Additionally, it is crucial to follow your veterinarian's dosage instructions and complete the full course of medication as prescribed to ensure the best outcome for your pet. If you have any specific concerns about your pet taking Flagyl, it is always best to consult with your veterinarian for personalized advice and guidance.

Is there anything I need to know about administering Flagyl?

When administering Flagyl (metronidazole) to your pet, there are a few important things to keep in mind: 1. **Dosage**: Always follow your veterinarian's dosage instructions carefully. Do not give your pet more or less medication than prescribed. 2. **Administration**: Flagyl is available in different forms such as tablets, capsules, and liquid suspension. Administer the medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If your pet has difficulty taking pills, you can ask your veterinarian if there are alternative options available. 3. **Timing**: Give Flagyl at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels of the medication in your pet's system. 4. **Food**: Flagyl can be given with or without food, but if your pet experiences gastrointestinal upset, giving the medication with a small amount of food may help reduce stomach irritation. 5. **Monitoring**: Keep a close eye on your pet while they are taking Flagyl. Watch for any signs of side effects or adverse reactions and contact your veterinarian if you have any concerns. 6. **Completing the Course**: It is important to complete the full course of medication as prescribed by your veterinarian, even if your pet's symptoms improve before the medication is finished. Stopping the medication early can lead to the infection returning or becoming resistant to treatment. 7. **Storage**: Store Flagyl as directed on the packaging or by your veterinarian. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. If you have any questions or concerns about administering Flagyl to your pet, do not hesitate to reach out to your veterinarian for guidance.

How Much Does Shipping Cost?

Small orders (less than 500g) cost $9.90 to be delivered anywhere in Australia. For larger orders, shipping costs are calculated on distance and weight (leaving Sydney) and an exact price can be obtained in the shopping cart prior to checkout.
