What is Acular?

Acular is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is commonly used in veterinary medicine to help manage pain and inflammation in animals. It is often prescribed for conditions such as post-operative pain, ocular inflammation, and uveitis in pets. Acular works by inhibiting the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause pain and inflammation, providing relief for animals experiencing discomfort. It is important to always follow your veterinarian's instructions when using Acular for your pet to ensure proper dosage and administration.

What problems could my pet have with Acular?

While Acular is generally considered safe and effective when used as directed by a veterinarian, there are some potential side effects and risks associated with its use in pets. Some common problems that pets may experience with Acular include: 1. **Gastrointestinal Issues**: NSAIDs like Acular can sometimes cause stomach upset, ulcers, or other gastrointestinal problems in pets. Signs of gastrointestinal issues may include vomiting, diarrhea, or decreased appetite. 2. **Kidney and Liver Damage**: Prolonged use of NSAIDs, including Acular, can potentially lead to kidney or liver damage in some pets. It is important to monitor your pet for signs of increased thirst, changes in urination, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), which could indicate a problem with these organs. 3. **Allergic Reactions**: Some pets may be allergic to Acular or other NSAIDs, leading to symptoms such as itching, hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing. If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately. 4. **Increased Risk of Bleeding**: NSAIDs can affect blood clotting in some animals, leading to an increased risk of bleeding or bruising. This is especially important to watch for in pets with pre-existing clotting disorders or those undergoing surgery. 5. **Other Side Effects**: Other potential side effects of Acular in pets may include lethargy, changes in behavior, or changes in appetite. If you notice any unusual symptoms in your pet while using Acular, it is important to consult your veterinarian. It is crucial to always consult with your veterinarian before giving Acular to your pet and to closely follow their instructions for dosage and administration to minimize the risk of these potential problems. If you have any concerns about your pet's response to Acular, do not hesitate to contact your veterinarian for guidance.

Is there anything I need to know about administering Acular?

When administering Acular to your pet, it is important to follow your veterinarian's instructions carefully to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medication. Here are some key points to keep in mind when giving Acular to your pet: 1. **Dosage**: Administer the prescribed dosage of Acular exactly as directed by your veterinarian. Do not give more or less of the medication than recommended, as improper dosing can lead to adverse effects. 2. **Administration**: Acular is typically available as eye drops for ophthalmic use in pets. Follow the specific instructions provided by your veterinarian on how to properly administer the eye drops to your pet's eyes. Make sure to wash your hands before and after handling the medication. 3. **Frequency**: Administer Acular according to the schedule recommended by your veterinarian. Do not skip doses or stop the medication abruptly without consulting your vet, as this can affect the treatment outcome. 4. **Monitoring**: Keep a close eye on your pet while they are on Acular treatment. Monitor for any signs of improvement in their condition as well as any potential side effects or adverse reactions. Report any concerns to your veterinarian promptly. 5. **Storage**: Store Acular eye drops in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and pets. Follow any specific storage instructions provided on the medication packaging. 6. **Combination with Other Medications**: Inform your veterinarian about any other medications, supplements, or treatments your pet is currently receiving before starting Acular. Some medications may interact with Acular, so it is important to ensure there are no contraindications. 7. **Regular Vet Check-ups**: Schedule regular follow-up appointments with your veterinarian to monitor your pet's response to Acular and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. By following these guidelines and working closely with your veterinarian, you can help ensure the safe and effective use of Acular for your pet's pain and inflammation management. If you have any questions or concerns about administering Acular, do not hesitate to reach out to your veterinarian for guidance and support.

Important information to know when ordering prescription medicines

A prescription is required from your veterinarian before we can supply this product.

If this is a new prescription, to enable immediate dispensing, please ask the vet to send a copy of the prescription to us prior to mailing it.

If the original prescription is in your possession, then please upload this to your pet's profile in VetRx prior to mailing it.

Please note that we must receive either a copy of the prescription from the vet, or the original prescription before we can dispatch your order. This does unfortunately add to the order processing time, however this is a requirement placed upon all pharmacies by the Health Regulators.

Only once a conformant electronic prescription system is approved by NSW Health, will we be able to end the need for paper prescriptions.

How Much Does Shipping Cost?

Small orders (less than 500g) cost $9.90 to be delivered anywhere in Australia. For larger orders, shipping costs are calculated on distance and weight (leaving Sydney) and an exact price can be obtained in the shopping cart prior to checkout.

Pet Pharmacy Australia applies a shipping discount on orders over $150. A discount of $9.90 is automatically applied during checkout. Additional shipping costs for bulky goods or priority delivery are paid by the customer.

The weight limit for Australia Post is 22kg and orders that weigh more than this cannot be shipped. We recommend placing multiple smaller orders to work around this problem.
